Daily Invocation

Spirit of the east,
breezes, winds,
bring your gifts of wisdom and insight
this day.
By the air that is her breath,
may our minds serve all that is good.

Spirit of the south,
fire and flame,
bring your gifts of passion and drive
this day.
By the fire that is her spirit,
may our energy support all that is good.

Spirit of the west,
water and wave,
bring your gifts of love and compassion
this day.
By the water that is her womb,
may our feelings flow toward all that is good.

Spirit of the north,
earth and stone,
bring your gifts of strength and grounding
this day.
By the earth that is her body,
may our hands tend all that is good.

Let work my will today
with harm to none and for the good of all.
So mote it be.

Prayer for Patience

Whatever power for healing exists,
let me embrace it
with patience.
May I respect the time it takes to change well.
May I respect others’ right to choose
whether to participate in this process with me,
or not.
May I let them choose what to offer,
and may I claim the right to choose
whether to accept their help,
or to turn elsewhere.

May I do this, and
All is as it should be.

Prayer of Respect

Let me remember
that no one owes me their friendship,
no one owes me their good opinion.
I have often gone far wrong
by trying to force my way
into others’ lives.
I have tried to manipulate others
through shame, or guilt,
or by pretending to be
other than I was.
From this time on,
let me put these ways far from me.
I commit myself now
to respecting others’ freedom.

Meeting the Shadow

Shadow that lives deep within me,
may I remember
that when I pursue others to condemn them,
I am fleeing you.
Let me wrestle with you
in myself,
and let others be.

Prayer of Wonder

The world is stranger than I ever imagined.
I am not what I thought:
I am not simply a whole mind driving a machine
I can understand and control.
I am a mystery to myself;
Processes I can barely begin to understand
went into forming this organism;
experiences generated by the tides of culture
and the long arduous process that is my ancestry
shaped the directions I would choose,
the paths I would take;
and form it still,
for every decision I make
in hopes of learning more,
becoming kinder or more just,
is shaped by the past
and by the efforts of thousands of others,
as well as by what chance puts in my way.

How do I live in a world like this?

With deep submission to the currents
that flow toward the good;
with deep compassion to all creatures
who have chosen badly
through ignorance or helplessness;
with deep humility,
because I can only ever see
a tiny part of an immense whole;
with deep gratitude
for the choices and the accidents
that have helped me grow;
with deep awareness
that I shape nothing on my own,
and that whatever I send out
affects the whole,
as the whole affects this speck
I call “me.”

Gratitude to the Ancestors

Mothers and Grandmothers,
I thank you for all your work
your struggles, your heartaches, and your joys.
I thank you for tending homes and raising children,
sharing your wisdom, enduring your failures.
I thank you for trying new paths
when the old ways stopped working.

Fathers and Grandfathers,
I thank you for all your work,
your struggles, your heartaches, and your joys.
I thank you for tending land and businesses,
sharing your wisdom, enduring your failures.
I thank you for trying new paths
when the old ways stopped working.

May my life honor your efforts;
may I draw on the gifts you have given,
and sift out whatever has caused harm,
so that my children and grandchildren
will live richer lives.
May my children
do the same,
drawing on the good I have given
and sifting out the harm.

Brigid Prayer

Brigid the maid
watches and waits
lets things grow steady
till they are ready
no force, no shame
no fear, no blame
her gentle hold
lets life unfold.

Day’s End Prayer
I give thanks for all the blessings of this day,
and pray for the wisdom to learn from all I’ve experienced.
But for now,
may I let go of excitement and regret
and give myself to sleep.

Nighttime prayer

Let me sail, untroubled, into the realm of sleep. I commit my body and mind to its care; may I be healed and restored. May the dreams that come hold wisdom, and may I use them well.
